Consulting for the Neurodivergent Family
Welcome to Lightning Feather Healing Arts Family Consulting program, where Donna offers education and counsel to families and caregivers who are seeking to better understand their neurodivergent child. Donna has a wealth of experience and expertise working with sensitive children and helps families and caregivers create environments where these children can flourish in harmony.
After training in Waldorf education and working as a Waldorf early childhood teacher, Donna went on to create The Sun Cottage School in Kentucky, where she developed a holistic, transformative curriculum for the sensitive child. This breakthrough program combines Therapeutic arts, Waldorf philosophy, Nature immersion, Mindfulness and Consciousness-based approaches. Her Sun school program initiative brought radical positive transformation to the children in her care and provided solace to families who were in need of support. Donna currently draws on the wisdom of this curriculum in counseling families and caregivers to create environments where the children can thrive.
How does Family Consulting work?
Donna develops a lovely rapport with her clients and she is a compassionate and strong support in their journey. First of all, she consults with the family to get a picture of the child and his or her environment and get an understanding of the family’s intentions for consulting. Then she will schedule a time to observe the child at home, school or both. Next she will consult again with the family to share her observations and to make suggestions.
Donna crafts a plan of action and works with the family to implement the plan and provide counsel through the process. Her recommendations can include such things as education for the family, curative movement exercises for the child, changes in the child’s rhythm of the day and dietary or sensory regimen changes. Each family is unique as is each plan of action and time spent together will vary in each situation.
